Configuring a HIPAA-Compliant Name Format

Last Updated: Sep 29, 2016 01:39PM EDT
Technical Level:  Easy

In order to meet HIPAA guidelines, patient names should be masked so as to prevent them from being readily identifiable to anyone other than the patient.  ClockwiseMD offers three different HIPAA-compliant formats from which to choose (shown for the patient John Smith):

•  First name, last initial          e.g., John S.          (default value)

•  First initial, first three letters of the last name          e.g., Smi, J.

•  First initial, last initial          e.g., J S   (this format is rarely used as it can be the most confusing if more than one patient has the same initials)

Here are the locations in which the change can be effected, in order of ease:

In the traditional settings page:

Alerts and Displays > • Patient-Facing Name Format

**  be sure and click the Update Display button to preserve your change

In Team Admin:

•  HIPAA name format

**  be sure and scroll to the bottom of the hospital page and click the Save button to preserve your change

NOTE:  if the change has been made while patient names are already displayed, you'll need to refresh the wait room display (by rebooting the G-Box or by switching to the Home Page, then back to the UrgentQ app) to seen the change.

Should you have any comments or questions, be sure and use the links in the right side bar to contact ClockwiseMD Support.
